The Apple in Dad's Eye
I happened to think of another story that pertains to dads, so I thought I would sit down and tap out this one for you!
Not so many winters ago my husband and the kids decided to hit the hills of the local country club. This particular country club opens it's gates to the public on "snow days" to let the kids come in and go down the wonderful hills that are great for sledding and are a part of their golf course! Whenever I drive inside to take the kids sledding I think about the scene from the movie, "Caddyshack" where the snobs meet the slobs at the country club grounds to allow the latter to use and enjoy the swimming pool for just one day! Since the hill seems to steep for this mom I sit in the car with the heater running enjoying a good read looking over occasionally as the kids enjoy seeing how fast and far their sled can go down the hill then make the trek back up the hill to do the whole thing all over again!
This is one day when my husband decided he would take the kids sledding instead. I gave them my blessings and told them to have a wonderful time! When the kids returned they told me the tale: "Dad stood on the hill and watched us go down several times." "Mr. T. came along with his son". "Mr. T. dared Dad to go down the hill". "We all dared Dad to go down the hill". After being coaxed and cheered on several times by this little crowd my husband decided to take the risk and be a sport for the sake of the kids! The kids decided to build a little mound of snow which after getting hardened with repeated use became a nice ramp to sled off of and add to the fun! My husband chartered his course to take in the ramp. He must have made a slight miscalculation in his otherwise excellent engineering prowess. The kids reported that when Dad's sled went off the ramp and became airborne the landing was disastrous! My husband went one way. The sled went another along with his eyeglasses, wallet, and loose change! His eyeglasses got broken in the fall which wasn't good as the man can't see very far away without them. As my husband and the kids scrambled to find coins that went like blades through the snow, broken eyeglasses, and other personal items the once cheering crowd thinned out! Mr. T. and his son left the hill quickly and quietly. The kids got an early lesson on how to drive home with my husband operating the gas peddle and wearing half his eyeglasses and a slightly punctured ego!
